Hoop Convergence:
Hoop Convergence, founded and curated by NC native, Julia Hartsell, was the first hoop dancersβ conference gathering on the planet. Between 2008-2015, Hoop Con gathered innovators, teachers, performing artists, and community ambassadors outside Carrboro to share skills and experiences. In those years, Hoop Convergence helped grow hoop dance as an art form, practice and profession. The Reunion Convergence in May 2024 in spinning some new creative collaborations!
With Julia's guidance and mentorship, Jazmin Fisher and Alexis Dumain will lead hooping workshops in the Hoop Con sponsored Kids Zone at Soil and Sky Fest!
In addition to being their first official hoop workshops and a fun family-friendly addition to the festival, this marks a deeply meaningful moment for Julia to pass the spinning torch to two amazing young women who she taught hooping (amongst other things) to in after-school programs and summer camps, almost two decades ago.
