Tree Talk

Rooted in Community:

The Role of Trees and What We Can Do to Support Them

a talk with arborists Sosha & Tommy of Lubbers & Sons Tree Care
1:30 - 2 pm
in the Earth Care Tent

A discussion on the value and role of trees in our human living environments (around our homes, towns, cities, places of work and recreation), and what we can do to support and care for them. Also, an opportunity to ask an arborist any of your burning tree or chainsaw-related questions and chat about what arborists do and see in the trees on a daily basis.

Meet Tommy

Owner/operator, crew leader, climbing arborist (and true climbing enthusiast), part spider monkey, loving father. Former expert carpenter, master of many useful skills, chainsaw artist, mushroom forager. A true leader and teacher who loves bringing new climbers into the industry safely. The most talent you'll ever see backing up a trailer-- if trick trailer driving competitions existed, he'd take home the prize money every time.

Meet Sosha

Owner/operator, ISA certified arborist, consultant, plant health nerd, rigging and ground support specialist, administrative wizard, wearer of many hats. When she's not at work, you can find her playing banjo and singing on the porch, painting, or at the gym preparing for her next MMA fight (she's a professional athlete)! She truly believes you can do and have it all and she's out here proving you can be both tiny and mighty.

I will always credit Sosha and Tommy with being part of the team that makes Soil & Sky Fest possible. I say this because the trees here at Benzai Bloomstead are integral to the spirit of the event, and many of the trees here have benefited from their care. They’ve helped me to diagnose tree ailments, boost trees that needed support, prune dangerous limbs, ward off infestations and remove dead trees that threatened buildings. It is very impressive to see them at work. The cherry on top is the friendship that has formed between us. It is my joy to introduce them to the Soil & Sky family and extend their tree care wisdom to more people. It’s a rare opportunity to get to learn from experts with as much knowledge as these two have. Go on - geek out. Ask your tree questions, your bug questions, your pruning questions, your chainsaw questions. Bring ‘em all!
